With everyone valiantly fighting for the rights of the depressingly marginalized demon subrace, it makes sense that a game finally put the guns in their hands for once and allowed them to blow limbs off torsos just as we once did to them. The designer behind Demons With Shotguns must have understood this, since his multiplayer arena shooter does just that.

Having arrived on Steam early access only yesterday, the game promises a return to 90s era twitch-based competitive shooter gameplay, only within a 2D platforming arena. In it, you fight for souls to replenish hell’s ever-dwindling supply of mortal essence. What this amounts to is people grabbing high powered firearms and blowing everyone to chunky red bits, just like the good old days.

Though it’s still early and the singleplayer campaign has yet to be attached to the title’s early access build, developer Mindshaft Games reassures fans that it’s coming eventually.

While the game is being released through Early Access, the game is very polished and all current 7 competitive local multiplayer game modes are feature complete. If you were ever a fan of the fast paced, twitch style shooting action of 90s arena shooters such as Unreal Tournament and Quake 3, I think you’re going to love Demons with Shotguns.
Please note however that the game’s singleplayer component isn’t available yet, which is still in early development, but we’re hoping to have something ready for community feedback soon. Thus keep that in mind when deciding to purchase! If you’re not into competitive local multiplayer games, you won’t hurt our feelings if you decide to wait for the singleplayer to become available
So besides the singleplayer campaign, what’s on deck? What can you expect to be added in the coming months?
  • More competitive game modes
  • More tarot cards
  • More death animations
  • More achievements and stats
  • More playable characters
  • Secret, unlockable characters
  • Customizable controls
  • Continuous polish, balance changes and tweaks

If there’s one thing you may have noticed in the game’s official videos, it’s that the soundtrack is remarkably well-done. Full of 1980s era horror-movie organ music and repeating synth, it absolutely drowns the listener in nostalgia. If you’re wondering who did the music and where you can grab it, you can answer both questions at Bandcamp’s site where musician VHS Glitch has made his work on the game available.

Demons With Shotguns Is currently on sale at a 15% discount, making it $6.79 on Steam.
