Bandai Namco Games have announced that they will be changing their name to Bandai Namco Entertainment on April 1, 2015. Their new, future logo is featured above.

“The new BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc. name reflects the next stage of growth and development for the company as it seeks to leverage its unique intellectual properties and franchises into new business opportunities and a wider network of content beyond that of the games business,” the publisher explained.

All of the company’s regional subsidiaries, bar one, are simply replacing “Games” in their names with “Entertainment”; the only exception is Bandai Namco Games Asia Holding, which is being renamed as Bandai Namco Australia.

They tried that before though it didn’t go that well and the last one was awful and killed the whole thing.

How is that different from what Bandai already does?

I like how this just so happens to land on April 1st. I can see why though, as funny as it’d be it’d just confuse the heck out if people if they didn’t announce it beforehand. With that said, “Bandai Namco Games Asia Holding which is being renamed as Bandai Namco Australia”. Say what now? Thats just plain weird.

Nice to hear anyway I guess, can’t wait to see what they come up with. I just hope they don’t keep it all to themselves over in Japan.

Their ‘Asia’ asset holdings/HQ is in Sydney, Australia. So relatively speaking the name makes sense.

Plus it’s pretty neutral, some of the Asian countries in that area are more then a little grumpy with each other so naming it focusing on a locale HQ there might be problematic, but none of them really have a chip on their shoulder with Australia. :P

Yea, I figured it was. I just find it odd. Your Asian branch isn’t actually in Asia, and calling it ‘Bandai Namco Asia’ is plenty neutral. Now, having it in Australia because having it in Asia would cause conflict, that I can understand.

Of course, I suppose certain countries won’t even like using the same branch as the one they have a beef with, so I guess calling the branch ‘Australia’ causes some sort of placebo effect.
