Back 4 Blood Developers Working to Fix N-Word Screaming Zombies

Back 4 Blood n-word

The developers of co-op shooter Back 4 Blood are working to patch out a glitch causing their zombies to seemingly say the n-word.

As previously reported, the game is the latest co-op shooter by the creators of Left 4 Dead, and once again has players shooting their way through a zombie apocalypse as they search for safe zones and scavenge whatever weapons and supplies they can find.

While the game is in closed beta for those who pre-order for a limited time; clips on social media gained infamy, showing the zombies (known as the Ridden) seemingly yelling the n-word.

In a statement to Kotaku, Warner Bros. Games explained that this was not one recorded line, but two different lines playing at the same time. This would seemingly be lines containing “gaah” and “nyeeh” noises.

The team set to work, resolving the issue to be resolved either while the beta is on going, or before launch.

“Our team has been made aware of offensive language that can be heard when playing the game. This was not recorded or ever intended to be part of our gameplay. The audio is a result of two different Ridden growls that are playing simultaneously and when heard together sound like that word. We are working diligently to fix this issue, which should be completed either in time for the Beta, or when the game launches.”

Back 4 Blood launches October 12th for Windows PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. In case you missed it, you can find our hands-on preview here.
