Comcept and Inti Creates have revealed the first gameplay for Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 at this year’s MAGFest.
Featured above, the debut gameplay was recorded off-screen from a panel held by Comcept boss Keiji Inafune and Inti Creates staff.
Some details were also revealed for the upcoming sequel, most notably that protagonist Gunvolt will have a new design – to accomplish this Inti Creates had to completely redo all of the sprites in the game.
According to the panel, the team is putting in an extraordinary amount of time into creating “the best high-quality game they possibly can.”
A release date wasn’t confirmed, but we know the game is currently in development for the Nintendo 3DS.

February 20, 2016 at 7:11 pmRemember that one game with Inafune? That was kinda like Megaman?
I forget what it’s called. Oh well, it’s probably my imagination.

February 20, 2016 at 7:14 pmInafune is treating Mighty like I treat doing my homework. Just putting it off and doing something else.

February 20, 2016 at 7:24 pmThis game would be great if they didn’t have that wooden cross nailed to their backs.
Until that game that I can’t pinpoint in my memory will get released, I see no future for this one.

February 20, 2016 at 7:26 pmAh yes, the 2D action platformer that only ran at 30fps (wat) and then had 8-4 (of Fire Emblem fame) butcher the Western release by unnecessarily removing content and inserting tumblr pronouns…
And if all of that wasn’t enough, the PC release ran at the same framerate, had no interface overhaul at all with the game just showing two seperate screens (as if it were an emulator), and still has controller issues on top of all that! No wonder it only sold 10k…

February 20, 2016 at 7:28 pmShame too. I was looking forward to it originally. Then I read about all that, and it killed my hype.

February 20, 2016 at 7:46 pmI don’t remember Inafune being involved with anything after leaving Capcom at all, friend~
I bet you were totally thinking of the upcoming free Torque character for Freedom Planet, though. Who wouldn’t remember Megaman-like gameplay being added to a hard as nails Sonic/Megadrive-inspired platformer?

February 20, 2016 at 9:22 pmI liked the first one. It definitely felt similar to Mega Man Zero, except it wasn’t as good as those. Now, Mega Man Zero was the best franchise on the GBA, in my opinion, hands down.

I thought Fates was the one game that Treehouse finally got off its fat ass and did.

February 20, 2016 at 11:03 pmI really hope they don’t ruin Bloodstained.

February 20, 2016 at 11:09 pmThe original game was alright after the controller issues were patched. I hope that if they go for another PC release, they’ve at least learned enough and got enough experience to put out a decent port.
At least the first game existed, didn’t ask for your money up front, wasn’t delayed and is actually out and was supported, as opposed to paying nearly four million dollars for a bunch of things you haven’t asked for like a toy line, a cartoon, an unwarranted sequel, and a bunch of excuses. When you detach Inafune’s name from this game, I actually have a lot of respect for the folks in Comcept that put it out.
P.S. Please put a Z-saber weapon in the sequel. Thanks.

February 20, 2016 at 11:34 pmHow the hell did Comcept manage to make something as good as Soul Sacrifice? Its too good compared to everything else they’ve made.
Welp after looking it up it turns out Sony of Japan helped develop the game so that’s probably why.

February 21, 2016 at 12:00 amI forget: Is Comcept the publisher for this and Inti Creates the developer, or are they both developing this? Either way, I’m excited for this……and I still need to finish the first one. :(
Richard Miller
February 21, 2016 at 1:02 amDon’t play the first on on the 3ds as it is very buggy and extremely censored.

February 21, 2016 at 1:48 amDon’t worry, I have it on Stream. Gotta say, it REALLLLY feels better to play with a PS4 controller. :)

February 21, 2016 at 2:02 amI’m actually shocked that xey are not doing a Kickstarter. This time around I expect a transracial robot with a limp.

February 21, 2016 at 2:07 amForgot they were working on that one as well.Glad I decided for a wait and see approach, which is my general strategy for most Kickstarters.

February 21, 2016 at 3:42 amYou really shouldn’t put Gunvolt into the same trash heap that’s associated with Comcept. It’s mostly done by Inti Creates who are actually competent game developers with a great track record.
I loved the first one, although the initial translation is freaking awful and the cut content and voice acting suck major ass. They said they were going to patch them in with the 3DS version, but still waiting on that front… really sucks because had the game had all its content intact with the initial release on 3DS, it would have been one of my absolute favorite 2D action platformers ever made. Yes, on the same level with Megaman Zero games and way above something like Shovel Knight.

February 21, 2016 at 10:05 amComcept isn’t working on Bloodstained. It’s Inti Creates. Both have ex-Capcom staff but are different companies.

February 21, 2016 at 11:41 amYeah I think Iga’s team is running the show here. I don’t believe Comcept has anything to do with this game.
Neojames82
February 21, 2016 at 11:42 amYeah from what I learned 8-4 isn’t the problem per se, it is NoA and Treehouse that did most of the damage in FE: Fates.
Nagato
February 21, 2016 at 3:20 pmYou’re right, but 8-4 still did a number on the US localization of Awakening. I should’ve specificied as much, or maybe have gone for the more recent 8-4/NT joint that was Xenoblade X.

February 21, 2016 at 5:13 pmmaybe deep down Inafune knows Mighty is a lost cause.

February 21, 2016 at 5:21 pmI didn’t understand the rationale behind 30 FPS, especially for a 2D game. 2D games (especially scrollers) look god fucking awful if they’re not 60.

February 21, 2016 at 6:44 pmI was just at MAGFest in person for this. I will say the Inti Creates’ sound team’s concert was frigging amazing. God-tier epic stuff. Inti Creates is top-tier epic.
Comcept/Inafune and his delays aside (he didn’t unveil a new release date on Mighty No. 9, just said “soon” to the masses while on-stage, lol), the concerts with IntiCreates were stunning. If you missed the Azure Striker Gunvolt concert during the livestream, it’ll be up on youtube soon enough. Frigging amazing night.

February 21, 2016 at 7:21 pmAnyone know if they have patched the 3ds version and add all the content they cut on their first release, and make it similar like the pc version?
Mighty No. 56008
February 21, 2016 at 7:35 pmYou look at this, and have to wonder how the hell did they royally screw up with Mighty No 9. I haven’t played the first Azure Striker Gunvolt but it at least LOOKS great, both artistically and gameplay wise.

February 21, 2016 at 8:28 pmHe was involved in this cool thing called Soul Sacrifice, it was kind of neat.
After that, I think he wanted to make something like megaman but he made kickstarters instead.

February 21, 2016 at 11:49 pmman, they must be holding their hands over their ears pretty hard to decide to have Inafune and Comcept anywhere near a new game announcement, you might as well set it on fire

I think that IGA will go out of his way along with the rest of the former SOTN staff to ensure the game actually gets finished, as IGA and company aren’t trying to turn around and ask for more money to make a “sequel” before they’ve reached 100% completion on their previous undertaking.

February 23, 2016 at 12:07 amThere’s no reason to look forward to games anymore.

February 23, 2016 at 12:07 amisn’t that version censored as well?
InfectedAI
February 23, 2016 at 11:42 amMy concern isn’t with the game getting finished, it’s with the quality of the final product. I simply have no faith in Inti Creates. I’m expecting the same types of problems as their last few releases.
GamersBlogX
February 27, 2016 at 2:24 am?
Did we play the same games? I won’t argue the censorship point, because it does have cut content, but buggy? No. I played the 3DS version a lot when it was first released, and during my whole time playing, I never encountered anything more then slow down, which was only if a lot was happening on-screen.

February 27, 2016 at 2:26 amGuys, this is an Inti Creates game, not a Comcept game. Keij
Richard Miller
February 27, 2016 at 2:42 amWell you are lucky as the 3ds version is very buggy with only some of the bugs being fixed and the poor European version got no fixes at all. Thankfully the PC version got more fixes and it may be bug free.
GamersBlogX
February 27, 2016 at 4:31 amWhat kind of bugs are we talking here? How bad were they?
Richard Miller
February 28, 2016 at 12:23 amimmortal bosses, getting stuck in walls, game freezing, etc. They are so bad that the Europeans are still complaining.
GamersBlogX
February 28, 2016 at 12:33 amWow. I didn’t know there were bugs that were that bad.
