The text says across North America and Europe, it just doesn’t specify which retailers in that region.

I wish they’d go back to the idea of letting you catch your own legendaries through super exclusive in-game events, like the Deoxys/BirthIsland deal in classic RSE or AzureFlute/Arceus in DPPt that never actually became a thing outside of Japan. It’s FAR more rewarding to go through these secret-y like stuff.

They kind of did it internationally for HGSS which were pretty cool but they were all Poke giveaways that just UNLOCKED events.

Why don’t they just distribute them all online? What is Nintendo gaining from limiting these to people who have participating stores in their area?

I kind of want to say it encourages people to go out or something of that nature but it’d be super pointless to only show up to put a Pokemon in your game and then leave when you’ve acquired it.

No store here in Portugal is doing this, so the term “Europe” for Nintendo is like 4/5 major countries

Most likely? Money from the stores.

diehard nintendo loyalists will cringe at the notion, but it’s not unheard of
nintendo partnered with hasbro, nickelodeon and other companies with splatoon for the splatfests and it was kind of cool how they integrated brand marketing into the whole team vs team game, but in this cases it might just be something similar but more boring

    store partnerships

When’d Niche Gamer decide to cover Pokemon download events?

It’s likely they’re getting these so they can transfer them to Sun and Moon.

As someone who used to live in a country that never gets these events, I give a massive NOPE to that.

    Seconded.

Although, maybe we can split the difference?

Distribute the neat key items that enabled participation (Fateful Encounter Pokemon, Arceus Flute, etc.) via online distribution, and have an update to the game that adds in the event section for unlocking?

That way, everyone can play, and distributions can still be neat!

What use do I have to this when I can’t transfer it to Sun or Moon?

oh hell no XD, I live near Lisbon and with the money I would spend going to Spain I can import other games. Fortunately my friend had an R4 back when Pearl/Diamond was popular so I was able to get Arceus using the Azure Flute (as well as Darkrai with the Ticket and such)

If you have XY or ORAS just transfer it to the bank and then transfer it to your game.

Unfortunately I missed Mew. I wanted to get the Arceus plush, but they only had 2 at each Gamestop like wtf.

Yeah folks didn’t have online at the time these things existed obviously so going to these things would feel all the more special (though I’ve never actually gone myself but the fact that it just made it all the more exclusive entices me).

But I’m still all for the opportunity of catching legendaries through your own party’s efforts.

    Level 100? holy shit
that’d just break early level shit, but you’d need to be lucky to be able to even handle the fucker

You wouldn’t even need luck; the fucker’s 100 so nearly anything the game throws at it would just be chip damage.
The only real challenge would be the test of patience on when the Arceus will eventually do an attack if you somehow don’t have all the badges yet.

Gamestop are a bunch of shitlords, they misrepresent a bunch of shit to Nintendo who don’t know any better, and convince them to keep working with them commercially.

    For example, Xenoblade fiasco

So that is possible then. At least I can use my own starter for Sun, because the starters for Sun and Moon really suck.

No excuse! It’s been around 4-5 years since the 3DS/PSVITA handheld generation started, besides were already moving on from 6th gen pokemon to 7th gen in a couple of months. I’d argue nows the best time to catch up since you’ll have six main Pokemon games to play, on top of all the other titles the 3DS offers!

Kids these days will never know the awesomeness that was catching Mystery Gift Pokemon. Events like Deoxys at Birth Island, Darkrai on New Moon Island, Arceus at The Hall of Origin, all these events added depth to their games and we’re so rewarding to achieve! Plus you were the envy of your friends when you caught them. Kids gotta learn to work hard for things, too. Not trying to sound like an old geezer, but going through difficult steps to catch super rare Pokemon taught me so much patience (I literally had to get an encyclopedia and teach myself Braille in order to catch the Regis in Emerald)!
But at any rate, it’s great to see this event finally come around. I guess I’ll have another Arceus next to my original Arceus (how do you explain that!?).
