ARC Raiders will now receive two massive updates per year

Live-service games usually fall into the same trap sooner or later: constant small updates that keep players busy for a week or two but rarely change anything meaningful underneath. Embark Studios now seems ready to move away from that formula with ARC Raiders, announcing a major shift toward fewer but significantly larger updates going forward.

Instead of monthly content drops, the extraction shooter will now receive two major updates per year. According to the developers, the old release cadence helped keep the game active after launch, but it also limited how much the team could realistically improve core systems like progression, balance, and long-term gameplay depth.

That does not mean the game is abandoning live-service support entirely. Embark confirmed that a dedicated team will continue handling smaller updates between the larger expansions, including bug fixes, balance changes, anti-cheat improvements, rotating store content, and limited-time events.

The first major update under this new strategy is called Frozen Trail, launching in October 2026. Embark describes it as the biggest update the game has received since release, centered around a massive new Rust Belt region that introduces the largest map in ARC Raiders so far.

One of the biggest focuses, however, is progression. Embark says Frozen Trail will overhaul several progression systems, especially for longtime players who have already maxed out their Raider Den and skill points. The update introduces additional long-term goals, improvements to the skill tree, and more reasons to continue investing time into the game beyond simple loot grinding.

Before Frozen Trail arrives, the game is also adding a new late-game Trader next week. Available starting at level 25, this vendor comes from a nomadic surface-dweller tribe and allows players to exchange valuable loot for rare gear, cosmetics, and rotating weekly rewards.

Executive Producer Aleksander Grøndal acknowledged that some players may not like waiting longer between major updates. Still, Embark believes the slower overhauls will ultimately create a healthier long-term experience built around meaningful evolution instead of constant smaller additions.

ARC Raiders released globally across Windows PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 on October 30th, 2025.
