Apex Legends Revenue Drops 74% Two Months From Launch

Despite having a strong launch in terms of playerbase and sales, Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment’s new battle royale hero shooter has been losing its steam just a few months later.

The game made a cool $92 million when it launched in February (currently the best launch for a free-to-play game), and two months later its revenue dropped to $24 million (via SuperData) in April, a 74% dip in earnings, or roughly a quarter of what they made at launch.

While figures on the current numbers of players on the game aren’t really known right now, a free-to-play online game will obviously live or die by its regular users. At one point, the game boasted over 50 million players.

There are some other factors at play as well – current top battle royale game, Fortnite, has a constant stream of new content and updates – Apex Legends has received updates much more slowly. The content that has been released, hasn’t been received favorably by the players that are still on the game.

Regardless of how well the game has been doing two months from launch, Respawn is doubling down on support for the game, as they’ve even put the next mainline Titanfall game to focus purely on Apex Legends (the latter takes place in the same universe as the former).
