Publisher Electronic Arts and developer Respawn Entertainment have announced the Steam release date for Apex Legends, alongside a delay for the Switch port.
The Steam version of the game will be available for Windows PC on November 4th, alongside the launch of the game’s Season 7 content. Furthermore, the Nintendo Switch port for the game has been delayed into 2021, missing its planned release with the Steam version.
Users who have been playing the Windows PC version of Apex Legends on Origin can switch back and forth with the Steam version via their existing account, meaning all progression and unlocks can be used on both platforms. Steam users are also eligible for exclusive Half-Life and Portal-inspired gun charms by logging in during Season 7.
“We’re still hard at work on the port, but in order to do justice to the game and make it into the great experience Switch players deserve, our team needs more time,” Apex Legends game director Chad Genier said in the new update. “This year has brought on unexpected new challenges, to put it mildly, and we don’t want to rush anything out.”
Grenier added, “Switch owners can expect to get their hands on Apex Legends next year. And of course, when Apex Legends does launch on Switch, it’ll come with support for cross-platform play, our latest seasonal content, and full feature parity with the other versions of the game.”
