You read that headline right – Electronic Arts announced not only were Anthem servers still running, they’re getting shut down next year.
While Electronic Arts and developer BioWare previously attempted to reinvent the multiplayer shooter, the game was eventually put on ice and had active development stopped.
At that time, it was assumed that the game’s online servers would be shut down, as its team was moving on to focus on other projects. Instead, its multiplayer servers were kept online for years now, only to get sunsetted next year.
“We have an important update to share regarding Anthem. After careful consideration, we will be sunsetting Anthem on January 12, 2026,” BioWare said in an update. “This means that the game will still be playable online for the next 180+ days.”
As of today, players that are still hopping online to play the game can no longer purchase in-game premium currency, though any remaining can be spent until the game is turned offline next year. Furthermore, as the game was planned as online-only release, the game will not be playable after its shut down.
“We deeply appreciate your dedication, passion and support over the years and we’d like to thank you for that,” the team said.
Anthem is still playable Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Get our review for the original Anthem release here!
