Anno 1800 locks original Steam users out of buying DLC bundle

Anno 1800 is a very good city-building strategy game, so it can be surprising to see its currently mixed Steam reviews.

To understand more about the issue we first need to take a look back; Anno 1800 was originally able to be pre-ordered on Steam from February 26th to April 16th, 2019.

Nothing was out of the ordinary until March 30th of the same year, when Ubisoft announced that the game would be removed from Steam as soon as it released, essentially leaving Steam users with the choice of either pre-ordering or not being able to buy the game on the platform at a later date.

Users who pre-ordered the game on Steam before its release did get to keep it and Ubisoft released all DLCs on the platform as well, so Steam users wouldn’t have an incomplete copy of Anno 1800.

The reason for the game’s removal was because of Ubisoft’s deal with Epic Games, which recently seemed to end, as Anno 1800 is available for purchase on Steam again, however, the people who supported the game originally aren’t too happy.

Anno 1800 had quite a few DLCs published on Steam despite being unlisted, with the game’s return to the store meaning that Ubisoft can now start selling “Complete Editions” of the game.

Ubisoft added the Year 4 editions of Anno 1800 to Steam as soon as the game came back, with a 50% discount, but here’s the catch: Steam users that pre-ordered the game are not able to buy the Year 4 edition.

No, you heard it right, the people who took a gamble on a pre-order and kept the game despite not knowing if the Steam version would receive any support have to pay more.
