ANIC and JAniCA Crowdfund Over ¥5.7 Million for Kyoto Animation Arson Victims

The non-profit Animation for Next Industrial Innovation Conference (ANIC) and the Japan Animation Creators Association (JAniCA) have finished their crowdfunding campaign on Makuake for the victims of the Kyoto Animation arson attack, raising over ¥5.7 Million.

1,083 contributors raised ¥5,727,000 (est. $52,700). The campaign began on August 19th with a goal of ¥1,000,000 (est. $9,200) and finished on October 18th. The funds shall go to the victims of the attack and their families, with ANIC forwarding messages from contributors.


This is prior to the city of Kyoto’s announcement on October 17th, stating the bank account accepting donations for the company had reached ¥2,915,460,000 (est. $26.8 million). A public memorial service will be held on November 3rd and 4th at the Miyako Messe event hall in Kyoto.

The attack took the lives of 36 people. 27 of the 33 injured employees have returned to work at the studio.
