AMD announces new flagship GPUs with RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX

AMD has unveiled their new flagship GPUs: the RX 7900 XT and the RX 7900 XTX, which will be competing against Nvidia’s own flagships in the RTX 4090 and 4080.

Their new top line graphics cards will be retailing for $899 and $999, respectively. This is a major deal seeing as their main competition, Nvidia, currently has their flagship marked for $1599.

Naturally, this is a massive undercut from Nvidia’s offerings, but it remains to be seen what the performance difference will be between the two GPU makers.

Currently, AMD is claiming up to 1.7x performance at 4K over their previous flagship, the RX 6950 XT, which only launched back in May of this year for $1099. It’ll also have an improvement to performance per watt of about 54%.

Meanwhile, they are also touting the cards’ extra features like DisplayPort 2.1, which their competitor in the 4090 does not support, as well as a Dual Media Engine with AV1 support. The latter of which is an encoder set which has gained prominence and is supported by their other competitors with Nvidia and Intel.

The new AMD GPUs are slated to launch on December 13, 2022. Are you considering grabbing one of those to upgrade your PC? Or are you team green and have already planned on getting one of the 40 series cards instead? Sound off in the comments below!
