AMD FSR 3 set to finally launch this fall

After being announced last year, AMD’s anticipated FSR 3 is finally set to release sometime in the fall.

Forspoken and the recently Immortals of Aveum are set to be the first games featuring this new technology.

For those unaware, what makes this release special is that FSR 3 features a similar technology to that of Nvidia’s DLSS 3 Frame Generation. Where frames are created and inserted between the game’s rendered frames to create a smoother looking image.

Other games that have been announced to support FSR 3 in the future include Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, Cyberpunk 2077, and Squad. Developers such as Ubisoft, Sega, and Bandai Namco have expressed plans on implementing this technology and the Unreal Engine will add in support for it as well.

While being supported on multiple series of GPUs was a major selling point during its announcement, there are limitations on what GPUs are capable of supporting FSR 3. According to AMD, frame generation is support on their RX 5700 and above GPUs. While for Nvidia cards, only RTX GPUs support it.

This isn’t to be confused with the upscaling portion of FSR. Which has been updated and this new form is only support from RX 590 GPUs and above for AMD, and starting with the 10 series for Nvidia.
