On Jan 5, 2022, television network AMC Networks announced its acquisition of popular anime distributor Sentai Filmworks along with its streaming subscription based service HIDIVE. AMC is widely know for airing the world renowned Walking Dead series along with several spinoffs of it and original programming on their streaming service AMC+ as well. They’re looking to break into the anime market by this latest purchase.

New York, NY (January 5, 2022) – AMC Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: AMCX) announced today it has completed the acquisition of Houston-based Sentai Holdings, LLC (“Sentai”), a leading global supplier of anime content and official anime merchandise, with brands including the anime-focused HIDIVE direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service. The acquisition includes all of the member interests from Cool Japan Fund, Inc., a public-private Japanese investment fund.

AMC Networks (AMCX) is not to be confused with AMC Entertainment Holdings (AMC) as they’re completely separate companies with no relation. The AMC part of AMC Entertainment Holdings is an abbreviation for “American Multi-Cinema.” AMC channel stands for “American Movie Classics.” The cable channel stands for “American Movie Classics.”
