Back in April there were reports Amazon had canceled their upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series headed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
It seems those reports jumped the gun, as a new announcement has confirmed the series is going forward after all, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge still heading it.
Sophie Turner (most known for Game of Thrones) will be the new Lara Craft, which is exactly what rumors earlier in the year had suggested.
Announced back in 2023 by Amazon Studios and dj2 Entertainment, the project was meant to be the start of a cinematic universe centered around the character and would have shared a connection with the forthcoming 2022-announced Tomb Raider video game.
In fact, at the time of the announcement, insiders were saying that Tomb Raider was going to be the second largest IP for Amazon – second only to The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. At the same time, there were rumors that Sophie Turner had been hired to play Lara Croft – rumors which have now proven to be accurate.
Amazon’s Tomb Raider is not to be confused with Netflix’s Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. Released last year, that version of Lara Croft has been successful, receiving a 73% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and even getting renewed for a second season. Though, it has recently been announced that it will end after its second season.
Either way, fans of the tank-top wearing video game protagonists will have lots of Lara Croft in the future.
