Amazon’s MMO New World Launches Today

New World

Amazon Gameslong awaited entry into the MMORPG space, New World, officially launches today.

New World is available now on Windows PC, via Steam.

The game already appears to be incredibly popular on launch; at the time of this writing there are just over 685k players online. As expected, it has spawned a numerous amount of articles and tweets like the one below.

There’s also a boatload of servers, with each server is capped at 2,000 players. Seems like a strange way to launch, but I guess given the aspects of colonization and exploration within, it makes sense.

By the time this post goes live, the game should be available in all regions. Players will storm into the world of Aeternum and gather resources in order to craft items for themselves, join a faction, fend off enemy factions, and work to uncover the secrets of the Corrupted. Combat is real time, instead of an auto attack system, so I’m curious to jump in for myself to see how this comes to fruition.

You can find the launch trailer below.

Additionally, new players will have Twitch Drops to look forward to. Watching any of the streamers on this list for a cumulative total of 10 hours will grant you a drop in the form of the Vinespun Weapon Skins. To sign up for drops, simply link your Twitch account to your New World account and get watching.

There will also be Prime Gaming rewards for New World, as should be expected for an Amazon released game. New players will be able to get the Pirate Packs, with the first pack available now through November 1st.

Pack number one includes an exclusive pirate character skin and pirate-stance emote, and 5,000 Marks of Fortune (premium currency, because of course this game has Microtransactions) which are used to purchase cosmetic items from the in-game store.

The second pack will be available from October 12th until November 1st including more pirate stuff; such as a sword skin, a throat slashing emote, and a three-pack of crests.

We’re aiming to take a look at New World here at Niche Gamer very soon, so keep your eyes peeled for a review and possibly more New World coverage on the horizon! Are you guys playing? What servers and factions? Let us know in the comments!
