Akai Katana re-release gets December release date, confirms platforms

Akai Katana

City Connection announced a release date for their Akai Katana re-release, alongside confirming platforms for the CAVE Interactive shmup.

The new re-release, subtitled Akai Katana Shin, is launching on December 15th across Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. The game will support English, Japanese, Spanish, and French languages. Physical versions are planned for Switch and PS4.

There will be three versions of the game: Original (the original 2010 version), Shin (a new version that supports widescreen aspect ratio, plus updated mechanics), and Zetsu (based on the original but with updated mechanics).

Akai Katana was originally developed by CAVE Interactive and released in Japanese arcades back in 2010, and later got a 2011/12 home release for Xbox 360. Since then it has not been ported to any other platforms, and isn’t backwards compatible on Xbox Series X|S.
