Activision CEO Bobby Kotick recently mentioned that a Switch successor is coming, and will be comparable to recent competitors.
Kotick said in the Microsoft / FTC hearings (via VGC) while they didn’t have the specs for the Switch successor, they are having active talks and believe the new consoles would be about as powerful as a PS4 and Xbox One.
For context, the now last gen consoles had roughly 1.84 and 1.4 TFLOPS respectively. This would fit in line with speculation and rumors that Nintendo is using Nvidia’s Orin NX SOC as they have previously used the company’s SOC solution for the Switch.
Kotick’s words carry more weight compared to general rumors due to his insider status among one of the largest game publishers. However he also stated that he himself was not entirely in the know either.
As for whether the Call of Duty franchise will see itself on a Nintendo console once more, Microsoft did sign an agreement with Nintendo, even though Kotick stated they wished to know the specs first.
Regardless of whether the proposed Activision Blizzard deal goes through, he also states that Activision will continue to look into bringing Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms anyway.
The Switch has been available worldwide since March 2017, and the newer OLED Nintendo Switch has been available since October 2021.
