It seems like social justice netizens (or warriors, in this case) simply can’t take a joke, and we mean this quite literally – as they’ve driven Troy Baker off Twitter, seemingly for good.
It all started when Baker quoted another Twitter user, who made a tongue-in-cheek joke over Caitlyn Jenner.
“Brett Michaels looks like Mickey Rourke tried to become Caitlyn Jenner,” said Brian W. Foster.
Baker quoted this, spurring the various social justice warriors to crawl out of the woodwork. After the massive dogpiling of intolerance against Baker, he recalled the event:
“It’s a shame when there are people who would much rather choose to be offended than laugh.”
He later said that he simply would no longer be using Twitter. “I quit Twitter,” said Baker. While we may not cover most of the games he’s done voice work in, he did play the role of Talion, the protagonist in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, and Kanji Tatsumi in Persona 4.
The original quote/tweet is no longer there, but we do have an archived version of an entertainment website recalling various reactions to Caitlyn Jenner’s “I Am Cait” screening, via E!, which you can view here. (via KotakuinAction)
What do you guys think? Is making jokes over Caitlyn Jenner completely out of the question? Was Troy Baker wrong to quote that joke?
