ACA2 NEOGEO The King of Fighters ’98 now available

SNK Corporation has announced the release of ACA2 NEOGEO The King of Fighters ’98, the first in their new upgraded ACA2 NEOGEO

The new ACA2 NEOGEO series brings new features like time attack and online multiplayer to classic games. The first release, The King of Fighters ’98, is now available for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Owners of the original release can upgrade for $2.99.

Here’s a rundown on the new release:

Affordable Pricing for the “Special Features” that Matter

The price of ACA 2 NEOGEO is 9.99 USD, but if you already own the PS4 version of ACA NEOGEO THE KING OF FIGHTERS ’98 you can purchase it for 2.99 USD.

Similarly, if you already own the Xbox One version of “ACA NEOGEO THE KING OF FIGHTERS ’98” you can purchase it for 2.99 USD, which is 70% off the regular price of 9.99 USD.

Get Fired Up Together with the “passionate” Network Mode

In “Network Mode” you can play with other players via the internet. You can create a room and invite other players, or join a room and enjoy the game. (*Supported games only)

Join the competition in the “expertly crafted” Time Attack Mode

In “Time Attack Mode” you compete for the fastest time to clear the game. Even if you reach a game over, you will be ranked based on the checkpoints you have reached, allowing both beginners and advanced players to enjoy the mode. (*Supported games only)

Save anytime & anywhere with the “expanded” save feature

In the previous “Original Mode”, there was only 1 save slot, but in ACA 2 NEOGEO, you can now use a total of 5 save slots, including 4 “save slots” and 1 “quick save slot”.

The newly added “Quick Save” and “Quick Load” functions can be assigned to each button, including the directional buttons, allowing you to save and load your game in an instant.

New possibilities with the “thoughtfully designed” rewind function

The “rewind” function allows you to rewind the game progress by about 5 seconds, so you can replay sections repeatedly or use it to create quick save points. The “rewind” function can be assigned to any button, including the directional keys.

Endlessly “improved” options menu

In the previous “High Score Mode” and “Caravan Mode”, opening the “Options Menu” would stop the game. However, in ACA 2 NEOGEO, opening the “Options Menu” no longer interrupts gameplay, allowing you to check the “manual” and adjust the “button settings” while the game continues in the background.

Furthermore, you can now change the setting to open the “Options Menu” with a long press, reducing the risk of accidentally opening the “Options Menu”. (*The game stops in Original Mode)

A variety of “classy” wallpapers to choose from

Now, there are many more wallpapers to choose from than before. Select one based on your preferences or mood.

User-friendly controls with the “carefully designed” screen layout

In the “screen layout” section, in addition to the custom settings that were available in previous versions, now you can also simply select from pre-defined screen options.

Easy-to-use “Adoptable” menu for vertical screen

When the screen is set to vertical orientation, the “Options Menu” also adopts the vertical layout, making it easier to operate compared to previous versions.

A more “refined” screen filter

In addition to the traditional “scanlines,” you can now enjoy refined screen display settings that take you back to the good old days when CRTs were used. These include “CRT TV Filter”, which curves the screen, “Brightness”, which recreates the brightness of an old CRT, and “Screen Noise”, which mimics screen flickering.

A “deliberately crafted” skip function to save even one second

With the addition of features like “Quick Start”, which automatically resumes from the mode you last played, and “Skip Instructions”, which allows you to skip the Operation Instructions before starting the game, you can now start playing right after launching the game.

Fully customizable “detailed” button settings

Not only action buttons, but now you can also assign functions to the directional buttons. For buttons that allow rapid fire, you can adjust the speed of the fire too.

No more confusion with the “default” arcade controller settings

You can revert the default settings for the arcade controller at any time, making it easy to use.

Save and recall your “preferred” button settings

Up to a maximum of 5 different “Button Settings” can now be saved for each player, allowing you to switch to an arcade controller during gameplay or change the most suitable button layout for different characters.

Faithful reproduction with the “thoughtfully crafted” VRR feature

By using a display (such as a TV or PC monitor) that supports VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and enabling the settings on the game console, you can achieve a refresh rate closer to the original title.
