Strictly Limited Games Announce Abarenbo Tengu & Zombie Nation for Switch October 9; NES-Compatible Cart for Zombie Nation

Strictly Limited Games have announced Abarenbo Tengu & Zombie Nation, along with Zombie Nation as a NES cart.

Abarenbo Tengu & Zombie Nation will be available for a limited time on Nintendo Switch via Limited Run Games. The first round launches October 10th at 12 a.m. (midnight) CEST (October 9th 3 p.m. PDT, October 9th 6 p.m. EDT). The second launches October 10th at 6 p.m. CEST (9 a.m. PDT, 12 p.m. EDT). It will be available for €29.99 EUR with a manual included.

As stated in the press release (via email), City Connection have helped bring the classic shoot ’em ups to the modern age. Abarenbo Tengu launched in Japan in 1990, while its localized US equivalent Zombie Nation launched a year later. The Nintendo Switch version will let players choose which version they prefer on the title screen.

Along with being able to play the original versions (with extra info on either side of the 4:3 screen ratio and achivements), there is also a mode that offers rewinding and quick save states. Clearing the game in the latter will unlock a “special mode.” Rapid fire has also been added to Abarenbo Tengu, something only Zombie Nation had.

In addition to the standard limited edition limited to 1,500 copies, there will be a Collector’s Edition (€59.99 EUR), limited to just 1,000 copies. It includes the following:

  • Game Card/Disc
  • CE Box (18 x 16 x 4cm)
  • CE Box Slider
  • Instructions Manual
  • Zombie / Tengu Stickers
  • Reversible Poster
  • Western Postcard Set
  • Cool Zombie Cards
  • Original CD Soundtrack
  • Tengu Mask /w Stand

In addition, Strictly Limited Games will release a NES compatible, cartridge for Zombie Nation. While region free, 600 copies will feature NTSC-styled gameplay, and 400 will be PAL designed.

This cartridge will be available in bundles with Abarenbo Tengu & Zombie Nation (€79.99 EUR), or with the Collector’s Edition (€109.99 EUR).
