Aamon Animations is a popular YouTube channel that makes videos merging pop culture, body horror, and politics. Ran by Aamon Hawks and funded through Patreon, a number of the videos of the channel have gone viral in recent years.
In one video, parodying progressive streamer Hasan Piker, Hasan sits at his desk, streaming. All around him are big green frogs. They don’t really do much of anything aside from making frog noises and gazing with rapt attention at Hasan while he gives his takes on politics.
For no reason whatsoever, Hasan flies into a murderous rage about halfway through the video. He cusses out the frogs, accusing them of “always doing this,” though they still aren’t doing anything. His body swells and becomes even more muscular than it is normally.
Roaring in rage, Hasan slams his fists into the furniture, sending frogs flying in all directions. The enraged Hasan throws frogs around, slamming one right through the wall. Then, he picks one up and swallows one alive. As the credits roll, Hasan returns to normal and continues talking politics in a chill tone.
The frogs in this video represent Twitch chat. Everything Hasan says within the video, including the enraged cussing, are all things he’s said during his streams. Unfortunately, Hasan, like many other edgy streamers on Twitch, have a tendency to scream insults at their fans at the slightest disagreement.
This is something I’ve noticed for many debate channels. Thankfully, Hasan watched this video and subsequent ones, admitting that it made him feel guilty and inspired a resolution to be nicer to his fans.
It’s not just Twitch streamers that get the horror treatment on Aamon Animations. Conservative comedian Steven Crowder gets the full treatment in Steven Crowder’s Nightmare, a surreal six-minute episode.
Steven Crowder’s Nightmare is based on a real life incident where Steven Crowder chickened out of a debate with progressive podcaster Sam Seder. This was a very surprising and noticeable event in political debate circles when it happened a few years ago.
Crowder had developed a reputation trolling and debating teenagers at colleges, and had boasted that he would debate anyone on the issues he was passionate about. It seemed this was just bluster, and when presented by popular host Ethan Klein with a chance to debate Sam on the E3 podcast, Crowder ran away.
Steven Crowder’s Nightmare parodies this by making Sam Seder laugh evilly and appear as a giant face, contrasting with Steven Crowder’s extremely sweaty body and bulging eyes. Steven Crowder runs down the corridor in fright, but then the entire world shifts and he finds himself in an alternate dimension.
Facing him is Arthur from the kid’s show Arthur. Arthur clenches his fist and removes his glasses, revealing beady eyes behind them. His beating heart is vomited from his throat, and he holds it out to Crowder.
He is soon joined by Buster, whose eyes are also like Arthur’s. “You really think people would do that?” Buster asks Arthur. “Go on the internet and tell lies?” The two hold hands and walk away, and the heart which Arthur removed slowly goes still, leaving Steven sitting there. Behind Steven, a demon in the shape of a giant bull awakens.
This might seem random and abstract, but very few things in Aamon Animations videos are random. One of the fun things about watching them is catching the references and discovering why certain creative choices were made and what everything means.
In the case of Steven Crowder, the reason he sees Arthur and Buster is that before becoming a conservative comedian, Crowder was the official voice actor for Frain from Arthur. So, in his darkest hour, he is confronted with these characters from more innocent times.
Only now they are twisted and dark due to the nightmare, and Buster’s words about telling lies are meant as a rebuke to Steven, probably for lying about being willing to debate anyone when in reality he only wanted to debate unprepared teenagers. In this analogy, the giant bull could symbolize either the golden calf of idolatry from the Old Testament or it may symbolize that Steven is full of bullshit.
In earlier videos, Aamon called out Biden for hypocrisy & gaffes. Biden glitches, talking about how he assassinated Martin Luther King Jr., when what he meant to say that he marched alongside him. In another video about the fall of Andrew Tate, Jill Valentine from Resident Evil is instrumental in capturing Andrew Tate.
This one is particularly epic, as it even has a return of Hasan, who is on a redemption arc after eating the frog in the earlier video. Hasan maintains his calm & beats Tate in a debate on women drivers, moments before Tate does battle against Jill Valentine.
Aamon Hawks is currently making four more videos. One of them is a Dr. Disrespect one. It will be interesting to see what he comes up with for Dr. Disrespect as well as all the other subjects being covered.
One added bonus of subscribing to the Patreon is you get to watch videos too controversial for YouTube, such as one covering January 6th which was deleted by the moderators after it went viral. I suspect we’ll be seeing more Aamon Animations going viral before the end of the year.
