A Thank You to Our Friends at TechRaptor

Full Disclosure: The consultation work we received from TechRaptor was paid in full with our advertising/Patreon money, for a small fee. This will be shown in our spending report in January, which will reflect the month of December. Outside of this consultation, our communication with the rest of the TechRaptor staff is limited to exchanges on Twitter.

Hi, everyone. I wanted to dedicate a quick piece about the thorough help that I received from TechRaptor‘s system administrator, Moscato. Considering that I’ve been learning all of the backend maintenance on my own—and that I previously had zero knowledge of SQL servers and the like—his assistance was invaluable.

We quickly outgrew the original server we had on Host Gator, and had to look for a new home for our burgeoning website and community. Following his advice, we decided to migrate to Bluehost, on a pro server that would give us plenty of leeway to grow and handle our daily traffic.

Considering the size of our existing database (over 30GB) and our massive archive of articles, the migration wasn’t an easy one. It had to be done in a very non-conventional method, and for his expertise, I am thankful. We’re now in a new home, and we can definitely weather the storm.

There are still many things we’re looking to do. I have a network engineer friend running extensive security tests on the site while helping me plug any holes, and we’re also eyeing various other avenues for our name, brand, and community to grow.

Raise a glass to colleagues that are willing to help one another out (and not collude with one another)—professional collegiality. Again, thank you, TechRaptor, for being standout writers in gaming, and for helping us migrate to a new home.
