A Developer Accidentally Leaks 48GB of Data From the Entire Unfinished Build of Star Citizen

To say that Cloud Imperium Games and Robert Space Industries’ Star Citizen is a highly anticipated game is an understatement – the crowd-funded space simulator has raised tens of millions of dollars in funding since its inception years ago.

Despite how long the game has been in development and how much cash the project has raked in, the developers have been keeping their cards quite close to their chest – probably to avoid hyping things up too much in fear of their fans getting restless.

Now, we’ve gotten a premature look (via WCCF Tech) at a sizable, unfinished portion of the game, from a developer on the game. Here’s a video a fan uploaded, showing off the massive Bengal ship:

The original leak came from a user by the name of Disco Lando, who showed off a batch of screenshots to fans, from the latest build of the game. However, there was a curious URL in the background, which naturally got one fan to see where it led. This URL turned out to be a huge cache of 48GB worth of screenshots, 3D models, information, and more, from the game’s current build.

It’s worth mentioning that Star Citizen offers several tiers to buy your way into owning the game, each offering different rewards, depending on how much you pledge.

Editor’s Note: The article originally stated that you could buy ships with real life money, something that is confusing at best. This has been reworded for accuracy.
