The dystopian, cyberpunk future is nothing new in video games, but it’s certainly always fascinating and interesting, no matter how many times it is seen. Corporations, cyborgs, technologies, the possibilities all encompass an incredible world. Half the fun is how this future world adapts to combat and the use of futuristic weapons. From Ruffian Games and Paradox Interactive comes Hollowpoint, a procedurally-generated co-op tactical action shooter for both Playstation 4 and PC.
Players take arms against the massive defenses of the 22nd century in corporate war. Players will battle an elite, cutting edge mercenary outfit in 2.D and 3D tactical action combat. Using near-future weaponry, players will take on these mammoth corporations, similar to EA’s Syndicate games. The trick to this particular game is that the levels are procedurally generated, meaning that no level is truly the same. Most importantly is the ability to fight together, and while players can fight solo, the real fun begins when playing amongst other players.
Billy Thompson form Ruffian Games took to the PlayStation.Blog earlier today to explain the details further:
Playing solo means you can only tackle one room at a time, but if you have teammates you can deal with threats in multiple rooms at the same time, allowing you a much better chance of completing the Objective faster and getting a Gold Level Credit Bonus. All of this on top of the obvious rewards of simply dividing the attention of the enemy and providing more firepower to take them down. Alone you are powerful, together you are unstoppable!
There’s still a lot more involved with Hollowpoint, how the procedural environments and the Contracts are pieced together to create constantly varied experiences, all of the different Objectives that make up the Contracts, all of the different Weapons, Abilities, Powerups, and Suit Attachments you will use, and how they’re all accessed and upgraded — essentially the entire meta-game…
A release date for Hollowpoint was not confirmed – but we’ll keep you guys posted.
