404 GAME RE:SET is shutting down less than a year from release

404 GAME RE:SET

Sega and NieR creator Taro Yoko have announced they’re shutting down 404 GAME RE:SET, their standalone RPG for smartphones.

404 GAME RE:SET is unfortunately shutting down less than a year since its April 2023 release in Japan and Asia, on January 5th 2024.

“We have not been able to create enough excitement to continue our service,” producer Gosuke Nakamura said in a statement. “We are determined to live up to the expectations of those who have always given us words of encouragement and those who have played Elage with great enthusiasm”

He added, “We have been trying to find a way to continue our service and have taken various measures. We have struggled as much as we could, but it is truly unfortunate that we could not avoid the termination of the service.”

The RPG was partially produced by NieR creator Taro Yoko, and featured classi Sega games anthropomorphized into anime girls (because why not).

It’s worth noting that Taro Yoko’s other smartphone RPG, SINoAlice, is unfortunately also shutting down soon.

Since release, 404 GAME RE:SET has only been available in Japan and Asia on both iOS (via the App Store) and Android (via Google Play).
