Last month 2K Games announced their customer support services had been “compromised” and warned players to change their passwords. The company said a third party had sent malicious links to some players.
In this latest update, 2K states a third party illegally accessed one of their helpdesk vendors in order to access private information of their users. The company sent out emails to affected users warning their data had been accessed, and user(s) are attempting to sell their data.
The data breach appears to have compromised users’ “email address, helpdesk ID number, gamertag, and console details.” Which they follow up by saying, “There is no indication that any of your financial information or password(s) held on our systems were compromised.”
As with any security compromise with any company, it is highly suggested to go through the methods of securing your accounts, such as resetting you password and activating multi-factor authentication.
2K is most known for publishing titles such as NBA 2K, Borderlands, and they are also the parent company of Rockstar Games, famous for their Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead franchises. The latter of which suffered a leak in regards to footage of GTA 6 development.
