Assassin's Creed Franchise Art Director is Leaving Ubisoft

The Assassin’s Creed franchise art director is leaving Ubisoft, the creator announced this afternoon.

“It is not without emotions I have to tell you that after 8 assassins, 16 years at Ubisoft I have decided to set sails on new adventures and challenges,” Raphael Lacoste said on Twitter.

He added, “I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart our wonderful community and the incredible talents I’ve had the chance to collaborate with, over these amazing years.”

In closing Lacoste said “Thank you too ,Ubisoft , for your trust and the fantastic projects we brought to life together ! Bye for now, these years will remain unforgettable.”

Lacoste has worked on eight of the main Assassin’s Creed games, including the original game released back in 2007 for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

Lacoste’s LinkedIn profile notes he was the official franchise art director for nearly a decade, working on Assassin’s Creed games like Revelations, Black Flag, Origins, and the latest mainline game – Valhalla.

While the Assassin’s Creed franchise art director is leaving Ubisoft, It remains to be seen where Lacoste will go next in his career. He did stop work on video games years prior to work on movies like Terminator Salvation, Jupiter Ascending, Death Race, and more.

Ubisoft recently pledged some big changes with the company’s future games, noting they would build high-end free-to-play games that trend towards AAA ambitions over the long term, while also still not lowering the bar for their standard paid AAA titles.

The next Assassin’s Creed game, Assassin’s Creed Infinity, is reportedly bigger than any previous game in the franchise and will encompass multiple timeliness, settings, and would even get huge post-launch support as a live service title. You can read more about that here in our previous report.
