Sega have released a new gameplay trailer for Sonic Colors Ultimate, highlighting the new features and improvements.
As previously reported, the original Sonic Colors launched in 2010 for Wii and Nintendo DS. Sonic pursues Dr. Eggman to his Incredible Interstellar Amusement Park; a seemingly altruistic endeavor hiding him destroying planets from across the universe and harvesting the energy of alien creatures called Wisps.
Sonic can use these Wisps to boost through stages, or gain incredible transformations to move blast through levels and foes; such as Laser, Drill, Hover, Spikes, and Frenzy.
The new trailer reveals other improvements over the original game. Along with HD visual improvements (60 fps, re-vamped lighting, improved graphics, and 4K resolution), the game has a new Rival Rush mode.
Players can race through levels against Metal Sonic, unlocking rewards. However, the brief splash screen showing Sonic vs. Metal Sonic may hint that other rivals can be raced.
These rewards are likely to be the Park Tokens players can unlock, as well as customization options (which can be bought with tokens) for different boost effects, clothes, and even auras that glow around Sonic.
The Jade Ghost is the game’s new Wisp, where Sonic can home in on glowing orbs to pass through solid objects. This Jade Ghost will also be the focus of the upcoming Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps animated shorts.
Along with customizable controls, players can also pick up the Tails Save tokens; rescuing players from falling into bottomless pits without losing a life. Collecting 100 rings in a level will also make players invincible for a short time, and boost their final score. Finally, the game’s soundtrack has been fully remixed.
You can find the HD Updates Spotlight below, along with the Aquarium Park: Act 1 Remix.
Sonic Colors Ultimate launches September 7th for Windows PC (via the Epic Games Store, and Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
