This Week in Warhammer – The Mortal Realms Quake Beneath the Tread of Kragnos

Warhammer

Games Workshop have previewed the Warhammer pre-orders coming this weekend, and it is all about the fourth and final book in the Broken Realms series.

As with all Sunday previews, Games Workshop released a recap video discussing some of the upcoming releases, as well as the kind of articles and content fans can expect to find this week on the Warhammer Community site and official Warhammer TV Twitch channel.

As Age of Sigmar 3rd Edition is looming, it should come as no surprise that this week is all about wrapping up the final releases of the current edition.

Broken Realms: Kragnos is the fourth and final book in the Broken Realms series, which has been full of major shakeups in the storyline to get things prepared for the main narrative arcs of 3.0. Kragnos- an ancient god of earthquakes and destruction- has inadvertently been freed from his prison beneath the mountains of Ghur, and is ready to continue his campaign of annihilation as he rampages across the realms.

As with all of the Broken Realms books, Kragnos will contain new lore and storylines that directly lead into the events in the upcoming 3rd Edition. There will also be new rules for a variety of factions, new units, updates to previous battletomes, and six scenarios that allow players to recreate the battles tied to Kragnos’ rampage.

The release of Broken Realms: Kragnos means it is only natural that the new units in the book will get their model releases as well. Kragnos, The End of Empires is a new centerpiece demigod model that can be included in any Destruction army. You can find more in-depth information about Kragnos here; complete with lore and his full warscroll.

It is only fitting that the one who sealed Kragnos away would also play a big part in the next narrative arc as well. Lord Kroak is an unfathomably ancient slann that has been around since the Warhammer Fantasy days, and he is getting an impressive new model with completely new rules to accompany it.

Dexcessa and Synessa, the Talon and the Voice of Slaanesh; are twin daemons that were birthed when Morathi made her ascension to godhood. These new Slaaneshi daemons will be available as a dual kit.

The Warsong Revenant is a new support piece for Sylvaneth. On top of being capable wizards, the Warsong Revenants can embolden your forces and terrify your foes with the haunting melodies played by their enchanted pipes.

Finally, Galen and Doralia ven Denst are a father and daughter duo of famed witch hunters that are here to lend their expertise to the Cities of Sigmar.

While this week is dominated by Age of Sigmar releases, there is something that 40k fans have to look forward to as well. Chapter Approved: Grand Tournament 2021 Mission Pack and Munitorum Field Manual 2021 MkII is the latest and most up-to-date companion for matched play and competitive 40k games.

As with all Chapter Approved releases, this latest pack is split into two books: a Field Manual that has the most current point costs for every faction’s models, and a Mission Pack with new scenarios designed with competitive and tournament play in mind.

Black Library has a few new novels coming this week as well. John French’s Mortis, the fifth book in the Siege of Terra series, is now available as an audiobook.

Ghazghkull Thraka: Prophet of the Waaagh! by Nate Crowley is a new novel that tells the story of the infamous Ork Warlord Ghazghkull Thraka, from the perspective of his trusty companion Makari. This book will be available first as a special limited edition collector’s version.

Elsewhere in the Warhammer universe, Dale Lucas’ Realm-lords follows a band of Alarith Stoneguards in a battle against the agents of Slaanesh. Finally, Gotrek & Felix: The Sixth Omnibus is yet another collection reprinting novels from the beloved Old World series. This omnibus contains the novels City of the Damned, Kinslayer, and Slayer, along with the short story Rememberers.

If that wasn’t enough, Games Workshop will also be releasing five free Age of Sigmar short stories over the next few days, each of which expands upon events from the Broken Realms.

That’s all for the upcoming Games Workshop pre-orders and This Week in Warhammer news. All of these items will be up for pre-order on the 29th, and will get a full release the following Saturday on the 5th.

Throughout the week, the Warhammer Community site will run articles teasing rules from the upcoming books and models, and the Warhammer TV Twitch channel will run a variety of hobby streams. Of particular note is the big Unboxing Dominion livestream that will happen on Saturday, which will contain a full reveal of Age of Sigmar 3rd Edition’s big limited run boxed set.

Which of these new models and books caught your attention? Will you be getting any of them when they release? Tell us in the comments below!
