Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition

Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii has teased an announcement of “that game” during the upcoming series’ 35th anniversary livestream.

Discussing the upcoming 35th anniversary livestream for the series; Horii tweeted his gratitude for the fans support, and how they would be talking about “that game.”

“Finally, this Thursday, Dragon Quest will celebrate its 35th anniversary! And as you may already know, we will be broadcasting a special program on the same day to celebrate the 35th anniversary! We’ll be announcing a lot of things to show our gratitude for all the support we’ve received. And of course, we’ll be talking about that game… I hope you all enjoy it!”

In 2018 we reported on a new game being in development; possibly involving younger versions of Erik and Mia. However, this title would not be part of the Dragon Quest Monsters Joker series, nor will it be a remake. It should also be considered that this was prior to the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused many delays and changes in plans.

Mainline Dragon Quest games (as of Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation) have been around 5 years apart from each release. Dragon Quest X can be seen as an exception, launching three years after Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Sky, and being an MMORPG.

It is possible that as Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age launched in 2017, we will see the announcement “Dragon Quest XII” for a 2022 launch. We will keep you informed as we learn more. The Dragon Quest 35th anniversary livestream premieres May 27th at 8:30 a.m. PST (11:30 p.m. EST) via YouTube (in English or Japanese).

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition is available on Windows PC (via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you can find our review here (we recommend it!)
