Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Launches November 23, Reaper Job, Male Viera, and More Detailed

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker Reaper Male Viera

Square Enix have confirmed the release date of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, along with the first look at the Reaper Job, Male Viera, and more information.

Expanding upon its announcement trailer, players have taken their quest all the way to Old Sharlayan and the moon, as voidsent and other monstrosities assault all of Eorzea. The vocals for Endwalker’s main theme was sung by Sam Carter of The Architects.

You can find the full trailer below.

Despite the date of Fall 2021 mentioned in the trailer, producer Yoshi P announced during the Digital Fan Festival that the game would launch November 23rd.

The expansion also brings two new Jobs. Alongside the already revealed Sage (a healer role), players can also play as the Reaper. The Melee DPS job appears to be a pet class (much like the Summoner and Scholar), wielding a two-handed scythe. It was explained during the Digital Fan Festival livestream the class would be a heavy melee class akin to the Dragoon.

A new town was also revealed; Old Sharlayan. While Sharlayan was available in the first expansion Heavensward (abandoned after the fall of Ala Mhigo to the Garlean Empire), players can now visit the original city of scholars, who insist on neutrality even as Eorzea faces its darkest hour.

New areas were also showcased; including Labyrinthos, Thavnair, Radz-at-Han, and Mare Lamentorum. While Thavnair and Radz-at-Han are clearly inspired by Indian cultures (and those of nearby regions), Mare Lamentorum is the moon.

In addition, new Dungeons were revealed. Alongside the ominous, hi-tech, and desert based areas; the official website shows a screenshot for what seems to be a dungeon around Thavnair or Radz-at-Han. You can find the Dungeon Crawl trailer below.

The game’s official Twitter account also confirmed that series staple The Magus Sisters will be coming to Endwalker, along with the beastman tribe Loporrits. Due to Japan’s mythology regarding rabbits on the moon (and surprisingly other cultures as well), it is more than likely the Loporrits will be found in Mare Lamentorum. A new Alliance Raid was also announced; the Myths of the Realm, focused around the Twelve- the gods and goddesses of Eorzea.

Yoshi P also revealed during the Digital Fan Festival that- despite prior statements on not adding new races and the game’s lore, Male Viera would be added to the game.

In the game’s lore (along with other Final Fantasy games Viera appear in), male Viera- a mere 20% of all Viera- typically spend their lives separate from their tribes- defending them from afar. They only come back home to breed every three to five years, along with picking up males that have begun to show sexual dimorphism around age 13.

Yoshi P explains that thanks to fan requests, and the hard work of the developers, Male Viera will now be available with Endwalker. Female Hrothgar were also confirmed to be coming in the future. Female Hrothgar had previously been seen in Final Fantasy X; albeit rarely. Lore explanations for both will be revealed in the future.

Finally, Yoshi P also confirmed that data center for Oceania would also be coming to the game. The coronavirus pandemic had delayed this, as the engineers were unable to physical visit the servers, having to use remote working to oversea set-up. This added two to three months to the planned launch time. As such, the Oceania data center will launch with 6.1.

The PlayStation Blog summarizes, and states other changes and additions coming to the expansion are as follows:
