This Week in Warhammer – The Lords of Undeath Return

This Week in Warhammer

Games Workshop have previewed the latest round of preorders coming this weekend, and its full of vampires and their undead minions.

As with all Sunday previews, Games Workshop released a recap video discussing some of the upcoming releases, as well as the kind of articles and content fans can expect to find this week on the Warhammer Community site and official Warhammer TV Twitch channel.

The majority of the next round of preorders focus on the first wave of Soulblight Gravelords, the new undead faction setting out to conquer the Mortal Realms. The Soulblight Gravelords act as a replacement for the Legions of Nagash, a cobbled together hodgepodge of ancient undead models left over from Warhammer Fantasy that hasn’t seen any sort of meaningful update since 1st Edition.

Many of the current Legion of Nagash models will be getting shiny new plastic kits, along with tons of new warscrolls and models, in the transition to the Soulblight Gravelords. Some of these updated kits include new Deadwalker Zombies and Deathrattle Skeletons, two units that have been using plastic kits that are getting close to being two decades old, if not older. There are also new plastic Fell Bats and Blood Knights, which will replace the outdated and expensive resin models currently used for them.

There is also a new plastic Vampire Lord, and the massive new centerpiece character, Lauka Vai, the Mother of Nightmares.

This once noble and dignified vampire lord of the Avengorii Dynasty was twisted by the esoteric change magics of Tzeetch, turning her into a monstrous centaur-like bat creature. Her kit can also be assembled as a Vengorian Lord if you want a large centerpiece that isn’t a named character tied to a specific vampiric dynasty.

Of course this release wave also includes the new battletome, warscroll cards, and faction-themed dice to show your allegiance to the Soulblight Vampires.

With all these new vampire models coming, you might want to read up about your new blood sucking overlords as well. Undeath Ascendant: A Vampire Counts Omnibus is a rerelease of the old Warhammer Fantasy Vampire Wars novels. This omnibus includes the popular Von Carstein Trilogy alongside three short stories.

The Mortal Realms get a new novel as well in the form of A Dynasty of Monsters, which tells the story of the aforementioned Lauka Vai as she leads an army against an impeding Chaos invasion into her dynasty’s territory.

If you aren’t into vampires then you can instead check out Gitslayer, a new novel following Gotrek Gurnisson’s exploits in the Mortal Realms. As the name implies, this latest adventure is about Gotrek slaughtering his way through goblin hordes in his quest for vengeance.

Its also time for White Dwarf 464, the May issue of the long-running Warhammer magazine. This latest issue features a detailed look at The Fallen, a battle report showcasing the new Soulblight Gravelords, new undead character creation rules, and much more.

While Age of Sigmar gets the lion share of new releases, there is still stuff to be excited about if you play Adeptus Titanicus. Forge World will be releasing a resin upgrade kit for the Warbringer Nemesis Titan, allowing you to equip it with the massive Belicosa Volcano Cannon.

Finally, Games Workshop is releasing the new Citadel STC brush range. This new line of synthetic brushes includes 12 different types, covering the whole range of major bush sizes needed to paint your favorite army.

That’s all for the upcoming Games Workshop preorders and This Week in Warhammer news. All of these items will be up for preorder on the 15th, and will get a full release the following Saturday.

Throughout the week, the Warhammer Community site will run articles teasing rules from the upcoming books and models, and the Warhammer TV Twitch channel will run a variety of hobby streams.

Which of these new models and books caught your attention? Will you be getting any of them when they release? Tell us in the comments below!
