Following a brand worship Twitter Championship battle between Xbox and Skittles, Xbox has come out on top, so Microsoft will make Xbox mini-fridges for real.
What started as a joke after the Xbox Series X was fully unveiled back in December of 2019 quickly took the form of memes where fans photoshopped the Xbox Series X into a number of scenarios – most notably a refrigerator. Xbox was entered into Twitter’s first “BestOfTweet Brand Bracket Championship”. Xbox and Skittles ended up becoming the finalists.
Both the Skittles and Xbox brand tried to rally consumers to vote in the championship, and while it was a close race the entire time, Xbox came out as the winner with only 1% of the vote. Towards the end, Xbox boss Aaron Greenberg encouraged Xbox fans to vote more, noting if the Xbox brand won, Microsoft will make Xbox mini-fridges.
After the win, Greenberg thanked all the fans that voted and said “This was down to the wire and thrilling to follow. Now that Xbox won, we will move forward on our promise to make those Xbox Series X Mini Fridges. First one off the line will be filled with games & headed to our friends at Skittles of course!”
Skittles also tried to get consumers to vote en masse by promising bring back lime skittles, but it seems like consumers don’t want to consume Skittles as much.
“Congratulations to Xbox on the win. Definitely a tough one, but a HUGE thanks to all of our friends, family, fans and for rallying for SKITTLES. We love you all! (but what are we going to do with all these non-refundable limes we ordered? If only we had a fridge)”, the company said.
