Tokyo Game Show is Online-Only Again for 2021

Tokyo Game Show will be online-only again for 2021, despite the event’s previous plans to host the public event in Japan once the previous event concluded last year – the event organizers have announced.

Tokyo Game Show 2021 Online will be held digitally from September 30th through October 3rd and be livestreamed to various platforms like YouTube, Twitch, Niconico, Twitter, Facebook, and more. Worldwide broadcasts will be available, and English translations will also be available for all planned content.

The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) and joint organizers Nikkei Business Publications and Dentsu, Inc. confirmed Tokyo Game Show 2021 will be online-only, due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns. Tokyo Game Show 2020 was also held online due to COVID-19 concerns, a first for the event since it began back in 1996.

The new theme for Tokyo Game Show 2021 Online is “Still, we have games”. It’s also worth pointing out this year is the 25th anniversary for Tokyo Game Show, as mentioned above the first show was held in 1996.

Despite this being the second online event, event organizers planned improvements for the event based on feedback. They’re planning a physical location for influencers and media to sample hands-on previews for new games, and interview developers. There will be an online tour of sorts for the public to also get a virtual simulation of the physical demo location.

For now, you can visit the official Tokyo Game Show 2021 Online site here.
