Developer BiowWare have confirmed there will be one piece of DLC missing from Mass Effect Legendary Edition; Pinnacle Station from the original Mass Effect.
As previously reported, it contains the original trilogy, with improved frame rates, new textures and models, and other visual improvements. All three games will include all single-player content and downloadable content. Bar one piece of DLC.
GameInformer reports that the Pinnacle Station DLC in the original Mass Effect will not be available. The top-secret Alliance space station featured 13 combat scenarios, with the chance to earn weapons and armor from the battle simulations.
At the time of the original game coming to PlayStation 3, Mass Effect Trilogy External Producer Ryan Warden confirmed in 2012 that the original source code by developer Demiurge Studios had become corrupted.
Speaking to GameInformer, Legendary Edition‘s game director Mac Walters explained trying to get the code back was “an emotional roller coaster.” Trying to contact anyone who may have been involved with the original DLC also bore no fruit.
BioWare and Electronic Arts did contact Demiurge Studios, only for the backups sent to also be corrupted, with vital links missing. Walters explained that to revive Pinnacle, it would need to be remade from scratch.
“It would basically take us another full six months just to do this with most of the team we’ve got. I wish we could do it. Honestly, just because this is meant to be everything that the team ever created, brought together again – all the single-player content. And so, leaving it all on the cutting-room floor, it was heartbreaking.”
