Path of Exile 3.13 Update Delayed Due to Cyberpunk 2077 Delay; Dev States They Don’t Want to Make Players Choose

Path of Exile

Grinding Gear Games have announced a delay in Path of Exile’s next major update, so as not to clash with the thrice delayed Cyberpunk 2077.

CD Projekt Red announced yet another delay for Cyberpunk 2077, pushing it back to December 10th on Windows PC (via GOG, and Steam), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Google Stadia. The reason was stated as “undercalculating” the time spent improving the game via a Day 0 patch, along with preparing the game for multiple platforms while working from home.

This delay has caused other effects, including for Path of Exile (free to play on Windows PC [via Steam], PlayStation 4, and Xbox One). Grinding Gear Games explained in their statement that due to their renewed efforts and new methodology for developing the 3.13 update, it will need to be delayed so players do not have to choose between the two games.

“We do not want to put our players in a position of having to choose between these two games, so we have decided to step out of the way and delay the release of Path of Exile 3.13 until January.

We still expect to finish 3.13 by early/mid-December. The scope of this expansion will remain unchanged. During the month of delay before release, we will start work on the 3.14 expansion.

So that you still have some interesting Path of Exile stuff to play over the Christmas/New Year break, we’re planning to run at least one multi-week event (for example, Flashback). We’ll confirm details of these event(s) once we have put together a plan.”

While the delay will not affect the development schedule, it will cause rescheduling for the release schedule planned for 2021. More details will be announced on that when 3.13 is announced. “In the meantime,” Grinding Gear Games state, “let’s all get out our Albino Rhoa Feathers and pray to Kuduku that they don’t delay again.”

Other gaming companies have been affected by the delay of Cyberpunk 2077 as well. Arc System Works tweeted a parody of the now infamous yellow screen used for announcing the game’s delays. However, they would delete the tweet and apologize. “We are deeply sorry to our fans and peers in the game development industry for any harm it has caused.”
