Activision have officially announced the next Call of Duty game will be called Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, with a full reveal coming later.

IGN reports that the game shall be inspired by and take place during the Cold War (roughly 1947 to 1991) where the Eastern and Western Bloc (especially the Soviet Union and the United States of America) fought in proxy wars, and used spy craft to undermine opposing nations. All while the threat of outright nuclear warfare was ever present.

The game is being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software. While Treyarch has been a developer on the Call of Duty games since 2005 (focusing on the Black Ops sub-series since 2010), Raven Software began acting as an assistant developer on the series in 2010.

Since August, an augmented reality game has been teasing the game, ultimately leading to the website Pawn Take Pawn. This provided even more hints and cryptic clues about the nature of the upcoming game.

The trailer features footage of Yuri Bezmenov, a KGB informant who defected in 1970. After his defection, he dedicated his life to warning the US about the dangers of communism, and the methodology communists (and the Soviet Union) use to subvert a nation.

Perseus was also the code name of an allegedly real Soviet Spy who had gained access to the Manhattan Project and other Unites States’ weapons development and testing projects. Due to the nature of intelligence and counter-intelligence, whether such a spy truly existed and achieved these things is unknown.
