PlayStation have announced Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, an online cooperative multiplayer mode coming to Ghost of Tsushima as a free update.
As stated on the PlayStation Blog, the mode is entirely separate from the main story- focusing on four warriors who have become legends on Tsushima. Legends is touted as “haunting and fantastical, with locations and enemies inspired by Japanese folk tales and mythology and an emphasis on cooperative combat and action.”
Friends or strangers online (via matchmaking) can team up in groups of two or four, and choose one of four classes; Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, or Assassin. The advantages and skills of each class will be revealed later.
Two players will play a series of co-op Story missions that escalate in difficulty. They promise to build upon “the foundation of combat from the single-player campaign but with new magical twists that often require careful synchronization with your partner.”
Four players will take on wave-based Survival missions, fighting groups of enemies. These even include the aforementioned mythological creatures, such as Oni (roughly the Japanese equivalent of a demon ogre or orc).
Four players can also take on Raids that will come after the Legends mode launches. All we know is that it will send “you and your partners to an entirely new realm to challenge a brutal, terrifying enemy.”
