Electronic Arts has announced they’re merging their EA Access and Origin Access together into one new subscription service: EA Play.
The two services will be merged into EA Play on August 18th, and the main features of both services will mostly remain unchanged under the new umbrella. Subscribers will have access to the same library of EA Games and pre-release trials currently offered through EA and Origin Access, and will get 10% off any purchases made.
Alternatively, Origin Access Premier is staying around but under another new name – EA Play Pro. This will grant users unlimited access to a bigger range of EA Games including new releases. To hopefully avoid more confusion, EA also renamed their yearly E3 live presentations, which also used to be named EA Play – it’s now called EA Play Live.
Electronic Arts is planning on offering more features on the new EA Play platform like in-game challenges and monthly reward drops. This will naturally vary from game to game, but EA said “we’re talking things like early access challenges and rewards like Ultimate Team Packs, exclusive vanity items and cosmetics, and more.”
While EA Play is now a unified platform, they clarified that the service isn’t – you’ll need to purchase separate subscriptions for each platform, whether it be Windows PC, PS4, Xbox One, or presumably the next-gen consoles. More details can be found over on the official EA Play website.
