Limited Run Games have announced they will be producing physical copies of the original Shantae on Game Boy and Nintendo Switch, during Limited Run’s Annual Game Announcement Show.

The game originally launched on Game Boy Color in 2002; a platformer Metroidvania where the titular Shantae must save Sequin Land from the pirate Risky Boots.

The original physical Shantae sold poorly due to being at the end of the Game Boy Color’s life cycle, but become somewhat of a collector’s item. The game was ported digitally to Nintendo 3DS via the Virtual Console in 2013.

As part of Wayforward’s 30th anniversary, the game will return to Game Boy Color as a cartridge, and on Nintendo Switch. Shantae re-releases physically September 2020 on Game Boy Color, and Nintendo Switch.
