Square Enix are offering a free face mask with select purchases of over $100 on the Square Enix Store.
The news comes via one of our Discord members, who is a Square Enix member. They received a promotional email, stating that until May 25th (while supplies last, and excluding pre-orders and digital items) any purchase over $100 by members on the store would include a free face mask.
For a brief time, the front page of the Square Enix Store also showed this promotional offer. The image has since been removed from the store page, and it does not appear to have been promoted on Square Enix’ social media [1, 2].
Our Discord member was unable to find out any other details of the mask without confirming a purchase. While the email jovially mentions the mask can “boost your vitality +1,” there are no details on the mask’s materials, or filter strength.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and Center for Disease Control (CDC) both recommend using face masks and coverings to combat the coronavirus outbreak. However, the CDC does not recommend surgical masks or N-95 respirators for general face covering.
“Those are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders,” as the CDC explain. “as recommended by current CDC guidance.”
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic (also known as COVID-19 officially, or Chinese Flu to others) has affected many worldwide, from businesses to public gatherings and events.
This includes postponements of GDC, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the physical events for EVO 2020 and Tokyo Game Show 2020, and cancellations E3 2020 (including digital events), the physical event for Gamescom 2020, and Comiket 98.

As of this time of writing, there have been over 4.193 million total confirmed cases worldwide, and over 2.444 million active cases. There have been over 286,000 deaths, however over 1.463 million people have made a “total recovery.”
