Yakuza: Like a Dragon Discovered on Steam Database

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

It has been discovered that Yakuza: Like a Dragon is on the data base for the Steam store. This would suggest an announcement soon.

The news comes via SteamDB (a third-party website dedicated to noticing changes in Steam’s database). Despite being the fact the game “has been deleted or is hidden to the public,” SteamDB managed to find it.

All that is available now are several images intended for the store page itself, as oppose to screenshots or videos. There is no release date, or other info. While far from confirmed, this may have been one of the surprises planned for the events [1, 2] acting as a surrogate to the cancelled E3 2020.

Curiously, the only Yakuza games currently on Steam are Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwame, and Yakuza Kiwame 2. Yakuza: Like a Dragon is titled Like a Dragon 7 in Japan (the Yakuza series being known as Like a Dragon in Japan), and that game is deemed a mainline entry in the series (in spite of radically different RPG gameplay).

Ignoring the Kiwame remakes, this would leave Yakuza 3 to 6 inaccessible for Windows PC players. We will keep you informed as we learn more (thanks Wario64!)

You can find an abridged rundown (via the video description of the announcement trailer) below.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon introduces a new main protagonist for the first time since the series’ inception over a decade ago — Ichiban Kasuga, a low-level yakuza member looking to prove his self-worth, and follows him and his motley crew of unlikely allies as they attempt to rise from rags to riches in this modern human drama.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is much more than just a new chapter in the Yakuza series. Much like the new English title itself, Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a complete reimagining of the franchise, a landmark to coincide with the series’ 15th anniversary. With the bulk of the game taking place in the large-scale, painstakingly-realized setting of Ijincho in Yokohama, players will explore an entirely new side of Japan never-before-seen in the series. Not only that, but Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s combat system has undergone a major overhaul, combining Yakuza’s established brawling action with a turn-based RPG battle system.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is available in Japan on PlayStation 4, and sometime in 2020 for the west. A Windows PC release may also be on the way.
