Update: We have added information about the game’s special editions into the original article below.
Ubisoft have revealed the “cinematic world premiere” trailer for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Previously teased via an art stream, the 12th main Assassin’s Creed game takes place during the Viking invasions of England (a period from the late 8th century to 1066).
Players will be able to use RPG mechanics to grow the main character, an an adventure that stretches from Norway to England. Players can build and customize their own settlement, and create their own viking for others to hire online and use in raids (and reap some of the rewards to boot).
Based on the official website, it seems that viking brutality will not be your only option, with diplomacy coming into play.
“In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, nearly every decision you make will have lasting effects throughout the world. Violence won’t be your only tactic for getting what you want; a silver tongue can be as effective as a steel sword when it comes to finding a home for your people. Shifting England’s balance of power and expanding your influence through diplomacy will likely make you more friends than brute force. Every political alliance you build, combat strategy you employ, and dialogue choice you make will alter your journey.”
Playing as a man or woman, Eivor will be able to dismember and decapitate foes, using dual-wield axes, swords, shields, and the series’ staple hidden blade; against “the greatest variety of enemy types ever seen in Assassin’s Creed.”
In addition, the game has three special editions. Firstly, the Gold Edition contains a season pass for $99.99. The Ultimate Edition contains the season pass, and the Ultimate Pack (containing the Berserker Gear Pack, the Berserker Settlement Pack, the Berserker Longship Pack, and a Set of Runes). It sells for $119.99.
Finally, the Collector’s Edition contains all of the content for the Ultimate Edition, along with a 30cm female Eivor figure, Steelbook, box, a 5cm Viking Statuette of Eivor, three lithographs of concept art, and a selected soundtrack of the game. It sells for $199.99. Pre-ordering any edition will grant a bonus mission The Way of the Berserker.
