Bandai Namco Entertainment have announced a remake of Mr. Driller DrillLand for Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Revealed during a stealthily released Nintendo Direct Mini yesterday, the game appears to be a remake of the 2002 Japan-exclusive GameCube game of the same name. Bandai Namco Entertainment also note the game features “dashing new graphics.”

The game takes place in the titular Drill Land, a secret underground amusement park. Each “attraction” has its own set of rules on top of the usual Mr. Driller gameplay (“some even inspired from the original universe of iconic NAMCO games!”), along with six characters.

For those unfamiliar, the Mr. Driller games task you with digging deep underground, using your drill to break colored blocks (and all colored blocks of the same color connected to it). Players must try to go as deep as they can, picking up oxygen tanks, and avoiding falling blocks.

A brand-new casual mode has also been added that is “a perfect fit for younger players,” or those who want a more relaxing experience. On Nintendo Switch, up to four players can play locally, with each player having their own stage, or all together in one giant stage.

The game also marks the 20th Anniversary of the Mr. Driller franchise. Though the first game did launch in 1999 in arcades, it was ported to Dreamcast, Game Boy Color, PlayStation, and WonderSwan Color in 2000.

Mr. Driller- the first game- was also also originally intended to be the third game in the Dig Dug series. The influence can still be seen in one of Mr. Driller DrillLand’s playable characters; the so-called “first Mr. Driller” Taizo Hori. His costume even resembles the classic Dig Dug protagonist’s outfit.

Mr. Driller DrillLand launches June 25th for Windows PC (via Steam), and Nintendo Switch.
