The Pokemon Company International have just revealed a new Mythical Pokemon- Zarude. In addition, a recent event in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield will allow players to catch Bulbasaur and Squirtle.
While details about this Rogue Monkey Pokemon’s behavior has been revealed, there is currently no way to capture it in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield.
It is likely the Pokemon will become available later via an event (catchable in a Max Raid den via an online update, or for purchasing a movie ticket for an upcoming movie, etc.).
“Mythical” Pokemon typically refer to those obtained through real world promotional events, such as Mew or Celebi. “Legendary” Pokemon are typical found in-game as bosses, such as Metwo or Rayquaza.
As such, we may be able to eliminate it appearing in Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield’s recently announced expansions.
Due to this creature’s clear affiliation with jungles, we suspect it may be distributed to those attending Pokemon the Movie: Coco. The film premieres July 10th in Japan, with no announced western dub at this stage.
We will keep you informed as we learn more.
You can find the reveal trailer and information on this new Pokemon (via the official website) below:
CATEGORY: Rogue Monkey Pokémon
TYPE: Dark/Grass
HEIGHT: 5’11”
WEIGHT:154.3 lbs.
ABILITY: Leaf GuardChanging, moveable vines
It can grow vines from the back of its neck, its wrists, and the soles of its feet at will. The vines are strong and flexible. They can be used to wrap around tree branches to move around or to grab Berries from distant branches. They’re useful for many different situations. The vines also have a healing property. If the vines are wrapped around a wound, it will heal.
A pack of ruffians living together
Zarude lives in a pack deep in the heart of dense forests. It treats anyone that isn’t part of its pack with immediate hostility, attacking right away. This is why other Pokémon that live in the same forest are afraid of Zarude. When fighting it swings around using trees and their branches, attacking relentlessly with its sharp claws or any other means it has. Its quick wit helps it excel in battles.
In addition, the latest Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield Max Raid battle event have been announced. In these battles, players have a chance to catch Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Charmander, Charmeleon, Squirtle, and Wartortle.
While Charmander and Charmeleon are also available for capture during this time, the player can obtain the Charmander line on rare occasions in Max Raid battles, and obtain one as a gift in-game.
It should be noted the expansions hinted at a way to grant Gigantimax forms for the Galarian Starters, and also showed that Venusaur and Blastoise would have Gigantimax forms in one of the expansions.
The event will also feature a very powerful Mewtwo, that “you’ll need help from other players if you want to defeat it!” This Mewtwo cannot be caught, but defeating it can earn you rare items such as Ability Capsules. The event runs until March 1st, 3:59 p.m. PST.
This is likely to coincide with Pokemon Day (February 27th), celebrating the release of Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green in Japan on February 27th, 1996.
