Larain Studios deny that Google Stadia’s community blog has leaked the release date for Baldur’s Gate III. Though there may be some truth to it.
In a post on February 13th, the Google Stadia community blog discussed upcoming releases for the year. The opening line discusses Baldur’s Gate III‘s release date.
“You’re already looking forward to DOOM Eternal, Get Packed, Orcs Must Die! 3, Baldur’s Gate III and many more games coming to Stadia this year.” However, Larain Studios has yet to announce an official release date for the game.
Speaking to PCGamesN, a Larain Studios representative told them “We haven’t announced a release period, and were included in that lineup email in error.”
Ignoring the fact there is no outright denial, some older information may hint at it being the truth. The official Twitter account for Baldur’s Gate III hinted on January 17th that an announcement coming on February 27th, with “something’s brewing.”
It is a possibility the game’s release date would be announced at that time (with Google jumping the gun). However, nothing has been confirmed at this time.
Even the game’s Steam page and official website have no information about the game itself. All this leaves us with is the announcement trailer from E3 2019, and a news post from GOG from the same time.
It stated the game was “created in close collaboration with the Dungeons & Dragons team at Wizards of the Coast […] based off current D&D mechanics and spells.”
Baldur’s Gate III also promises to “push the boundaries of the RPG genre and offer a rich narrative with unparalleled player freedom, high-stakes decisions, unique companion characters and memorable combat.” It will also be Larian Studio’s largest project to date, boasting single-player and co-op.
We will keep you informed as we learn more.
