Indie Games to Watch in 2020: RPGs, Part 2

Last time, I covered some of the most promising indie and AA RPGs coming out in 2020. As I mentioned in that article, there are simply too many of them coming out this year to put in a single list, so here’s the second part.

Here are 13 more RPGs to keep an eye out for in 2020:



Isles of Adalar
Developer: Peakway Software
Platform: Windows PC

Isles of Adalar

Isles of Adalar is an open world action-RPG that can be played alone, or in co-op. The main draw of the game however, is that it is also part RPG maker. The game will come with an in-depth quest editor and mod tools, as well as full Steam Workshop support.

Isles of Adalar launches July 2020.

 

Iron Danger
Publisher: Daedalic Entertainment
Developer: Action Squad Studios
Platform: Windows PC

Iron Danger

Iron Danger is an RPG that blends elements of turn-based and real-time combat. The game is set in a steampunk fantasy world inspired by Finnish folklore, and follows Kipuna on her quest to save her home from an invasion of destructive barbarians from the far north.

Kipuna has been granted a mysterious and ancient power that allows her to manipulate time. In gameplay terms, this means that you can rewind time for up to five seconds during combat.

Iron Danger doesn’t currently have a release date.

 

Cris Tales

Cris Tales

Another upcoming RPG about time manipulation is Cris Tales. Crisbell must journey across Crystallis and the four Kingdoms, to stop the Time Empress and save the future. The game’s mechanics are all about peering into the past to find information, carrying out your choices in the present, and watching the consequences unfold to see how it affects the future.

Cris Tales doesn’t currently have a release date.

 

The Iron Oath
Developer: Curious Panda Games
Platform: Windows PC, Linux, Mac

The Iron Oath

The Iron Oath is a turn-based tactical RPG about managing a guild of adventurers in a dark fantasy world. Manage your guild’s finances, hire new adventurers, and send them out on quests. You can shape the personalities, motives, and alignments of your guild members based on your actions, and the missions you send them on. Your adventurers will also age, retire, or die permanently during battles.

The Iron Oath doesn’t currently have a release date.

 

Vagrus – The Riven Realms
Developer: Lost Pilgrims Studios
Platform: Windows PC

Vagrus - The Riven Realms

Vagrus – The Riven Realms is a sandbox RPG set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world. You are a Vagrus, a leader of a nomadic caravan traveling across the blasted wastelands of a dying continent.

Make critical decisions that can affect the future of your caravan, and its followers. Fight monsters and bandits in tactical, turn-based battles focused on character positioning, and proper use of your leadership skills.

Vagrus – The Riven Realms doesn’t currently have a release date.

 

Gamedec
Developer: Anshar Studios
Platform: Windows PC

Gamedec

Gamedec is a cyberpunk RPG where you play as a detective that solves crimes that happen in virtual worlds.

Set in Warsaw City in the 22nd Century, the line between fantasy and reality is nearly nonexistent- due to the sheer number of humans that retreat into virtual reality to escape the problems of the real world. As a Gamedec, you are tasked with diving into these virtual worlds to solve crimes that spill out into reality.

Gamedec doesn’t currently have a release date.

 

Death Trash
Developer: Crafting Legends
Platforms: Windows PC, Linux, Mac

Death Trash

Death Trash is a post-apocalyptic action-RPG set in a grotesque world that has been devastated by cosmic horrors. Scavenge for resources and ancient secrets in the wastelands of a ruined world alone, or with a friend in local co-op.

Death Trash is set to release in the first half of 2020.

 

Vigil: The Longest Night

Developer: Glass Heart Games
Platforms: Windows PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Vigil: The Longest Night

Another upcoming action-RPG about cosmic horrors is Vigil: The Longest Night. You play as Leila, the last member of The Vigil, as she fights to hold back the dark corruption besieging her home town. The game promises challenging combat against horrific eldritch creatures, as you guide Leila on her journey to unravel the mysteries surrounding her lost sister.

Vigil: The Longest Night doesn’t currently have a release date.

 

Fae Tactics

Developer: Endlessfluff Games
Platform: Windows PC

Fae Tactics

If you’d like to take a break from fighting grotesque abominations, then Endlessfluff Games has you covered with Fae Tactics. Set in the same universe as 2011’s Legend of Fae, Fae Tactics follows Peony on her journey across a vibrant world to uncover the reasons behind the growing struggle between mankind, and the magical fae.

Fae Tactics doesn’t currently have a release date.

 

Grand Guilds
Developer: Drix Studios
Platforms: Windows PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Grand Guilds

Another colorful tactical RPG coming out this year is Grand Guilds. The game follows Eliza and her guildmates as they work to track down those responsible for a series of attacks across the continent. The game’s combat blends turn-based tactics with card mechanics, where each card represents special abilities your characters can use at key moments during battle.

Grand Guilds is targeting a March 2020 release date.

 

Biomutant
Publisher: THQ Nordic
Developer: Experiment 101
Platforms: Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One  

Biomutant

Biomutant is an action-RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world where you play as a furry, raccoon-like creature.

The game’s stylish combat system evokes martial arts and Kung Fu tropes, as you skillfully dodge enemies and deliver counterattacks with blades and guns. Players can also manipulate their DNA by exposing themselves to biochemicals and radiation, granting access to new special abilities and powers.

Biomutant doesn’t currently have a release date.

 

Tainted Grail
Developer: Awaken Realms Digital
Platform: Windows PC

Tainted Grail

Tainted Grail is based on Awaken Realms’ hit board game of the same name, that made over $6.4 million on Kickstarter in 2018. Set in a dark reimagining of the Arthurian legends, you control a party of adventurers trying to reclaim the lost Grail so they can cure the land of the Wyrdness, a corruption that twists everything it touches.

Weird West
Publisher: Devolver Digital
Developer: WolfEye Studios
Platform: Windows PC

Weird West

Finally, we come to Weird West, an RPG set in a fantastical version of the American Wild West. Explore a wild frontier and become a legend, in a world where outlaw gunslingers and otherworldly creatures are but some of the threats that roam the outskirts of civilization.

Weird West doesn’t currently have a release date.
