Platinum Games has announced they’ve received a major investment from Chinese mega-publisher Tencent Holdings.
The capital investment will reportedly set the grounds for a partnership of sorts, while not affecting the independence of the Japanese developer. Platinum Games will be able to further expand into self publishing thanks to the investment, while still operating under their existing corporate leadership.
“We hope to use this capital to strengthen our foundation as a business and expand from game development into exploring self-publishing,” said Platinum Games president and CEO Kenichi Sato
He added, “We also hope that this partnership can give us a wider global perspective, while still creating high quality games that stay true to our name.”
The most recent game from Platinum Games was Astral Chain, which they developed under Nintendo. Their upcoming games, Bayonetta 3, Babylon’s Fall, Lost Order, and Granblue Fantasy: Relink, are all being developed for major publishers as well.
