We have heard a report that Fantasy Flight Interactive will close next month. We have also seen allegations that its board game parent company, Fantasy Flight Games, will soon be hit with lay-offs.
The news comes via Fantasy Flight Interactive’s Studio Head Tim Gerritsen. Gerritsen posted this message to his LinkedIn profile on January 6th.
“It’s with great sadness that I have to report that the decision has been made to close Fantasy Flight Interactive next month. I’m proud of the team and the game we’ve dedicated ourselves to for the past few years. It’s a been an amazing journey with even more amazing people. I’m going to do my best to get my team placed in new positions. I have programmers, designers, artists, QA staff and a producer to get placed in new roles and will do my best to do so quickly. Additionally, I’m now open to new opportunities myself since I will also be out of a job.”
In addition, the story was shared to r/Boardgames. The user (Samuel Bailey, who had worked at Fantasy Flight Games for three years) further claimed:
“A large amount of people have been laid off from Fantasy Flight Games and Fantasy Flight Interactive. […] Most, if not all, the RPG department has been laid off. Numerous other employees have been cut in an large reorganization of the the entire studio following the departure of several key members of the company that have been there for years.”
Fantasy Flight Interactive seems to be laser-focused on The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game. Fantasy Flight Games have an extensive library of board games and living card games- including Arkham Horror, Mansions of Madness, Battlelore, Legend of the Five Rings. This is along-side games with licences from Game of Thrones, Marvel, Star Wars, Fallout, Doom and more.
We have reached out to Fantasy Flight Interactive and Fantasy Flight Games for comment.
